In the still dark morning hour
The droopy-headed velvet flower
Feels a silent stirring wake--
A hallowed hush before the break.
He waits, subdued, and gathers might
To stretch his neck up toward the light.
He strains to face the coming day
Knowing darkness must give way
To dawn.
